Focus on national cooperation: The University of Applied Sciences fh gesundheit from Innsbruck visits the Geriatronics Research Center in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

fh gesundheit Innsbruck meets Garmi in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Walter Draxl and his team were in a good mood when they brought the sun from Innsbruck to visit the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen last week.

They also had a few questions with them about a possible cooperation between their University of Applied Sciences Health and the Geriatronics Research Center in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and its partners LongLeif and Caritas. Managing Director Draxl, Professor Waltraud Buchberger and engineer Michael Morandell wanted to find out during their visit to the local geriatronics team how their students could participate in the research results of the scientists at the Robotics and AI Institute MIRMI at TUM. The main question was when assistant robots like Garmi will enrich the care of the future and how they can be involved in the training of future nurses today. Assistive robots, such as the sensitive development by the Garmisch-Partenkirchen researchers, make training in care much more attractive. The main focus here is on the relief that Garmi can provide so that staff have more time for patient care.

In the model apartment in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where Garmi is being prepared for later use alongside nursing staff, not only the guests from Innsbruck came together with the well-known robot during this laboratory visit, but also around 20 nursing students from the Protestant Nursing Academy in Munich. They took the opportunity to ask Mario Tr̦binger Рresponsible for human-robot interaction at the TUM campus Рnumerous questions. They were enthusiastic about the possibilities that Garmi opens up in care and were reassured to learn that the robot is absolutely safe when interacting with people. This is thanks to the sensors specially developed for it and the achievement of tactile feeling.

If you would like to find out more about the Campus in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you are welcome to take a look here and make a note of July 10, 2024 in the evening: This is when the campus partners invite you to a public presentation at the Kongresshaus in Garmisch-Partenkirchen – details to follow.
